Because it would be so much more complex and expensive to put disc brakes on the cars, right?

"If you've ever wondered why your car is acting sluggish and has a burning smell only to discover that you've forgotten to release the parking brake,"
Yeah, the design on the brake is the problem here.

it may also be integrated into driver assist systems that can remove the brake as you touch the accelerator.
Good for hill starts, I guess.
But no more powerslides :(

I have hill start assist. I don't like hill start assist.
It's annoying as hell. It's bipolar: sometimes it'll engage, sometimes it won't. I've become so used to it not engaging that when it does I nearly stall because now I'm having to overcome the brakes (I'm faster than the 2 seconds it takes to disengage)
The best thing for hill starts is practice

It's not an emergency brake. It's an emergency...make the car smell funny lever!

Parking like this on a hill - without curbing your front wheels - is an automatic ticket in San Francisco - $318 right out of your pocket. #themoreyouknow
